Birding: A Lens on Nature, Part II

Mon, Nov 29, 2021
LIVE  at 3:00 PM ET / 2:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM MT / 12:00 PM PT

Arpita Dutta is back with more insight into the wonderful world of birds. In this webinar, she explores birds’ amazing intelligence and how it manifests in their daily routines and behaviors. Even with a small brain, birds have devised remarkable strategies for not only working hard but working “smart” to survive. They are masters of adaptation and transformation, facilitating their presence and resilience worldwide. We’ll look at how birds build their nests differently depending on their habitat, how they feed their young and raise their brood, and how evolution has affected their body, beak and bone shapes over time. We’ll also learn how certain human technologies were developed to duplicate efficiencies that birds have evolved. Birds have been influenced by humans in negative ways, however, including the impact of climate change. They are often harbingers of how a changing climate is affecting whole ecosystems. Yet Arpita has much to inspire us with when it comes to protecting our feathered friends. She has spent more than two decades studying birds in the wild, noticing how their habits and activities help point us toward ways we can help in their conservation.
