In the world’s most visited national parks where wild animals are relatively easy to view, some species end up becoming “stars.” These animals – typically the larger and more captivating within their territory (think “charismatic megafauna”) — are often even named and ascribed personalities. While this is a powerful way to spur interest and connect people with wildlife, such practices have led to uncomfortable debates about anthropomorphism — the attribution of human characteristics to an animal. In this webinar with Nat Hab Expedition Leader Aditya Panda, you’ll meet some star animals from India’s top national parks, and learn their exciting life stories. Join the debate about whether this is the right way to educate visitors and what the potential risks of treating wild animals in this manner can be. Aditya introduces several tigers, an elephant and a black panther, gauging their roles in conservation education while discussing whether their larger-than-life personalities have led to flawed management interventions. In the course of this presentation, you’ll also learn more about what wildlife you can expect to see on a Nat Hab India safari.
