It’s that time of year—antlers are dropping from the heads of elk, moose, caribou, deer and other cervids in the northern hemisphere. Antlers are some of the most impressive pieces of headgear in the animal kingdom. These external bones grow on the heads of deer species, falling off after the rut (mating) season and then regenerating again in the spring. Join Expedition Leader and wildlife biologist Aaron Bott as he delves into exactly what antlers are, how they evolved, how they grow, and why they fall off.
