Presented by Anthony Mallinson
Caribou -- known as “reindeer” in Europe and Asia -- have lived in North America for nearly 2 million years and are one of the few megafauna species to survive the last ice age. These ungulates boast incredible adaptations to the cold, like the ability to see ultraviolet light and muzzles that can alter air temperature by nearly 100 degrees! Expedition Leader Anthony Mallinson gives a crash course in caribou, including their importance in Indigenous cultures, the differences between subspecies, and the threat climate change poses to these icons of the Arctic.
